Dakota will be joining the Mexican filmmaker Gerardo Naranjo‘s English language feature debut. The story is set in the 80′s following the story of Viena (Dakota), a roadie on a journey of self-discovery while on tour with a punk band in the 1980s. Production begins in Nevada later in february and is set to begin filming in March!

Dakota Fanning has boarded the filmmaker’s English language feature debut, which doesn’t seem to have a title just yet, but will combine a couple of our favourite things: road trips and music. The ’80s-set story will find Fanning playing Viena, a roadie for a punk band as they travel across America, in “a journey of self-discovery and survival.” Of course, Fanning has been on this kind of similar journey before (in her role as Cherie Currie in the somewhat underrated “Runaways”), only here it seems her character isn’t on stage, but watching from the sidelines. Great, it looks like a staring role! Of the films Dakota’s done in recent years, we’ve only seen two: Now is Good and The Motel Life. IMO, neither of Dakota’s roles in these movies was a challenge. Her performances in any of her prior movies were more interesting than in these two. If she’s going to be the powerhouse actress I believe she can be, she needs some challenging, gritty roles. I hope this is one of them. I’m not talking about sex; I’m talking about personas that are tough to put on the screen. This is from one who is in awe of Dakota’s talent and potential.
